This study evaluated the diagnostic value of 3D NLS-research in patients with peripheral neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2). Fifteen patients with soft-tissue neurofibromas were examined using 3D NLS-graphy, ultramicroscanning, angiography, and spectral-entropic analysis, with results verified by MRI and histology. Neurofibromas appeared as hyperchromogenic, oval or round lesions with homogeneous structure and clear contours, while vascular abnormalities were detected in 66.7% of cases. Most tumors were found either in subcutaneous or intramuscular tissues, and some small lesions were identified only through NLS examination. The technology also demonstrated the ability to assess genetic involvement of the NF2 gene and assist in surgical planning. Researchers concluded that 3D NLS-research can serve as an effective screening and diagnostic tool for detecting peripheral nerve tumors and monitoring neurofibromatosis progression.
