This study evaluated the effectiveness of three-dimensional virtual NLS imaging for detecting tumors of the distal bile ducts and major duodenal papilla in patients with biliary obstruction. Researchers compared 3D NLS with conventional ultrasound, CT, fibrogastroduodenoscopy, and ERCP. Results showed that 3D NLS provided higher diagnostic accuracy than standard two-dimensional NLS, particularly for small tumors and early-stage lesions. The technology improved visualization of tumor size, location, tissue invasion, and relationships with surrounding structures while remaining completely non-invasive. Spectral-Entropic Analysis (SEA) further enhanced the ability to characterize tumor types and detect very small abnormalities. The authors concluded that 3D NLS may reduce reliance on invasive procedures and improve early diagnosis and treatment planning for biliary tract tumors.
