This article discusses the use of Non-Linear System (NLS) diagnostics in evaluating purulent-destructive diseases of the lungs and pleura, including lung abscesses, abscessed pneumonia, pleural empyema, and pulmonary gangrene. Based on examinations of 267 patients, the authors describe characteristic NLS imaging patterns that help differentiate various stages and forms of these conditions.
The study proposes an NLS-based classification of lung abscesses according to the effectiveness of spontaneous bronchial drainage and outlines criteria for distinguishing purulent abscesses from gangrenous ones. It also identifies three major NLS presentations of pulmonary gangrene and highlights specific imaging features of pleural empyema and pyopneumothorax.
According to the authors, NLS imaging provides detailed visualization of pathological changes without radiation exposure, making it useful for diagnosis, monitoring disease progression, and assessing treatment response in severe lung and pleural infections.
