This study evaluates the effectiveness of 3D Non-Linear Scanning (NLS) with ultramicroscanning and contrast-enhanced multi-layer spiral CT in diagnosing lacrimal passage diseases. Twenty-eight patients with various lacrimal disorders were examined using both imaging techniques. The methods successfully identified conditions such as chronic dacryocystitis, post-traumatic dacryocystitis, lacrimal duct obstruction, and lacrimal sac tumors. 3D NLS proved valuable for detecting structural abnormalities, inflammatory changes, and pathological contents within the lacrimal sac. Contrast-enhanced CT provided detailed information about the exact location, extent, and severity of disease, as well as relationships with surrounding anatomical structures and nasal sinuses. The combined approach improved diagnostic accuracy and supported treatment planning. The authors conclude that 3D NLS is an effective first-line diagnostic tool, while contrast-enhanced CT serves as an important complementary method, particularly for complex nasolacrimal canal pathologies.
